Cameron County officials have shut down South Padre Island's Beach Access 5 and 6 as well as Boca Chica Beach due to high tides, dangerous driving conditions and rip currents.

Cameron County Judge Carlos Cascos has asked law enforcement to assist in making sure these accesses remain closed until further notice.

The move comes ahead of a cold front bringing heavy rains and severe weather to the Rio Grand Valley.
