Authorities have ordered the closure of Boca Chica Beach and South Padre Island's Beach Access No. 5 and No. 6 as Tropical Storm Don approaches the South Texas coast.
Don is expected to make landfall between Port Mansfield and Baffin Bay but Cameron County Judge Carlos cited high tides and dangerous conditions along the Gulf Coast as the reason for the closures.
Cameron County officials are asking area residents to be cautious and refrain from entering the gulf waters because possible rip currents that may be generated from this storm.
“I have asked our law enforcement authorities to ensure that no individuals or vehicles be allowed access to the beaches on the North end and Boca Chica Beach. It is very important that the public pay attention to our warnings and stay out of harm’s way,” Cascos said in a statement. “We continue to monitor Tropical Storm Don as it makes its way through the Gulf of Mexico with a trajectory into South Texas.”
Authorities are expecting lots of rain and flooding from Tropical Storm Don.
Cascos said county officials continue to prepare and coordinate sandbag distribution with all of its partners.
