The PSJA bribery scandal has come to a close after a federal judge sentenced two men who bribed a school district official for favorable contracts.
Both Jose “Joe” Lopez and Pedro Armando Gutierrez appeared for sentencing before U.S. District Court Judge Ricardo Hinojosa on Friday morning.
The two were indicted back in February 2007 with paying tens of thousands of dollars in bribes to former school board member Rogelio “Roy” Rodriguez.
Former Superintendent Arturo Guajardo, Rodriguez and the other members of the board all got mixed sentences back in January.
Judge Hinojosa sentenced Guajardo to three years probation while Rodriguez got three years and one month in prison to be followed by three years probation.
The McAllen Monitor reported Judge Hinojosa sentenced Lopez to four years probation and a $10,000 dollar fine while Gutierrez received three years probation.
Both Lopez and Gutierrez are the last defendants to be sentenced in the case, which all dates to an FBI investigation back in January 2005.
