A Brownsville attorney found himself on the other side of the law after getting arrested in a domestic violence case.
Brownsville police arrested 54-year-old Ray Marchan on assault and interfering with an emergency call charges early Thursday morning.
Investigators told Action 4 News went to Marchan’s home off Fireside Drive after authorities received a 911 hang up call around 12:45 a.m. Thursday.
Officers arrived and heard a woman screaming inside the house.
An officer looked through the window and saw Marchan with his arms behind his 21-year-old wife.
Investigators said the woman was clinging to a home phone and Marchan was seen preventing her from making a call.
The officer tapped on the window prompting Marchan to come outside where he was arrested for Class C misdemeanor assault and two counts of interfering with an emergency phone call.
The 54-year-old attorney appeared before a Brownsville municipal judge on Thursday morning where he plead not guilty to the assault charge and was issued $5,000 dollars in bonds for other charges.
Police said Marchan’s wife has requested an emergency restraining order against him.
Marchan told Action 4 News that he and his wife just got into an verbal argument where no phyiscal contact was made and that they have since reconciled.
Action 4 News has learned that it’s not the Brownsville attorney first brush with the law.
Marchan had been accused in another assault case several years ago involving a financial argument and fight with his ex-wife at his old law office.
A court case involving Marchan has been named in court records for the former 404th State District Court Judge Abel Limas corruption scandal.
Marchan has not been charged in the scandal.
