A man accused of leading Border Patrol agents on a marijuana chase near Brownsville’s old Amigoland Mall remains behind bars.

U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested 20-year-old Javier Gomez-Lopez on federal drug charges on Tuesday.

Court records show that Gomez-Lopez was spotted at an International Boundary and Water Commission property along the Rio Grande.

Agents show him allegedly loading five bundles of marijuana into a Volkswagen Jetta with Tamaulipas license plates.

Border Patrol agents tried to stop the car on Palm Boulevard but he speed off and turned into a neighborhood on D Street.

Gomez-Lopez bailed out of the car but was caught hiding at a house.

Authorities seized 342.64 pounds of marijuana at the scene.

The 20-year-old appeared before U.S. Magistrate Court Judge Ronald Morgan on Wednesday morning.

Judge Morgan denied bond for Gomez-Lopez until a Monday afternoon hearing.
