Authorities have confirmed that four gunmen are dead following a shootout with Mexican soldiers in Nuevo Laredo.

Mexico's Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA) confirmed that the deadly shootout took place early Sunday morning.

Soldiers were patrolling Calle Coahuila and 20 de Noviembre when they saw two vehicles driving erratically around 2:20 p.m. Sunday.

The soldiers tried to pull over the two vehicles when the men inside opened fire.

The gun battle ended with four gunmen being killed.

The identities of the men were not released but authorities reported seizing six assault rifles and ammunition.
