The Food Patrol held a former top performer sushi restaurant in Weslaco accountable for 31 demerits on a recent health report.

Kato Sushi on 2017 W. Expressway 83 scored the most demerits this week.

Kitchen cops found cooked fish left out at room temperature, dirty equipment and mold in the cooler.

The condition of a toaster was also described by a chief health inspector as “filthy” and “greasy.”

The head sushi chef disputed most of the violations as “petty.”

He also found it hard to believe that an inspector could find 31 demerits after the restaurant scored 0 on the previous health report.

The sushi shocker wasn’t where the problems ended this week for Valley kitchens.
