Six notary publics from the Rio Grande Valley are facing legal trouble after being shut down for immigration-related fraud.
The Texas Attorney General’s Office is accusing the owners of violating the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act as well as laws that regulate notary publics and lawyers.
The Attorney General’s Office filed lawsuits in Hidalgo and Cameron Counties requesting temporary restraining orders and injunctions against the six.
The six individuals and their businesses were identified as:
• Anna Trejo – 5802 North La Homa - Mission
• Dora Maria Resendez – 1201 Chicago Avenue - McAllen
• Josefina Fonseca - Fonseca Services – 302 East Coma Avenue - Hidalgo
• Maria Alvarado - Mary's Bookkeeping & Income Tax – 601 North La Homa – Palmview
• Maria Yolanda Solis – 1443 East Jefferson Street - Brownsville
• Emilio Zabala - Azteca Immigration – 413 West Nolana - McAllen
State investigators told Action 4 news that all six are licensed notaries public but falsely claimed to be able to handle immigration cases.
The Attorney General’s Office is seeking up to $20,000 per violation.
