Brownsville police have shut down the northern section of Paredes Line Road following icy conditions and a wreck.

Authorities have shut down Paredes Line Road between FM 511 and Alton Gloor Boulevard.

Brownsville Police Department spokesman Eddie Garcia told Action 4 News that the decision was made shortly after 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

Police officers worked to clear an auto accident there just before the notice.

Garcia said Paredes Line Road is elevated in the section that authorities have closed down.

"People need to slow down on the overpasses, this is where the ice is accumulating," Garcia said.

A four-vehicle accident with minor injuries was reported on FM 511 east of Paredes Line Road shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday.

Brownsville police reported at least 26 auto weather-related accidents between 6 and 11 a.m. Thursday.

No major injuries have been reported in those accidents but Garcia said two of them involved 18-wheelers.

U.S. Expressway 77/83 remains shut down but the frontage road is open.

Residents are being asked to take detours for both the expressway and the northern section of Paredes Line Road.

Garcia said authorities are asking residents to obey traffic signs and barriers.

"Damaging or removing a traffic barrier or device is an arrestable offense, a Class B misdemeanor," Garcia said. "Going around them is a ticketable offense."
