McAllen's La Plaza Mall is going to expand.

Mayor Richard Cortez made the announcement during his "State Of The City" address on Thursday morning.

Cortez said the 140-store, 1.2 million square foot mall would be expanded by another 160,000 square feet.

The McAllen mayor said the city is also working to lure big retailers such as Fry's and Cabela's.

Cabela's would be direct competition to Harlingen's Bass Pro Shop.
