Three police officers are dead following a deadly attack and a chase south of the border in Tampico.

CNN Mexico is reported the officers were killed in a grenade attack on the Tampico Police Department on Thursday morning.

Authorities reported that eight people were wound and that one of the three killed is believed to be a police commander.

A group of armed men reportedly fired guns at the police building and threw fragmentation grenades.

Shortly after the attack, authorities reported that a chase with armed men took place from Tampico city limits to inside the State of Veracruz.

CNN Mexico reported that more police officers were killed during the chase.

Tampico is a port city located along the Gulf of Mexico about eight hours south drive from the Rio Grande Valley.
