State troopers are investigating their third fatal accident in the Rio Grande Valley this week.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers report a fatal accident happened on Texas Highway 186 and FM 1015 early Thursday morning.

Investigators told Action 4 News that 53-year-old Raymondville resident Oscar Tamez was killed in a single-vehicle accident around 2:43 a.m. Thursday.

State troopers said Tamez was traveling west on State Highway 186, drove-off the roadway, went into a side skid and struck an embankment.

Investigators believe foggy conditions that were prevelant in the area early Thursday morning may have played a role in the fatal crash. 

DPS officials are urging Valley residents to be careful on the roads over the holidays.

State troopers have worked a fatal accident in the Valley almost every day this week.
