Sexual harassment allegations have led to the suspension of an assistant superintendent for the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District.
Rigoberto Abrego was placed on suspension with pay on October 22nd, according to Jacques Treviño, the district’s attorney.
Abrego is assistant superintendent for finance and operations at the district.
He’s held that position since July 2008, according to Treviño.
An ECISD source who spoke to Action 4 News under the condition of anonymity said a total of six alleged female victims, who work in clerical positions across the district, have come forward against the assistant superintendent.
The accusations date back to his time of employment, according to the source.
Many of the victims said they feared speaking out because of retaliation against them.
Treviño said the district is taking the allegations against Abrego very seriously.
A full internal investigation is underway.
The findings of that investigation are reportedly due back sometime in early November, according to the source.
When asked if Abrego has spoken out since the claims against him, Treviño would only say that the assistant superintendent has retained an attorney.
“This is a personnel matter and until the findings are complete the district will have no further comments,” Treviño said.
