Brownsville mayor leads relief drive for Mexico

Brownsville Mayor Pat Ahumada is urging area aresidents to help participate in a relief drive to collect items for Hurricane Alex victims in Mexico.

The Category 2 Storm tore through Tamaulipas and caused flooding in the Rio Grande Valley last week.

Alex left a lot of damage in the states of Tamaulipas and Nuevo.

Ahumada said the City Of Brownsville is working with H-E-B and local church groups to collect food, water, new blankets, diapers, powdered milk and other items.

The Brownsville mayor said there are several collection trailers throughout the city but also a central location at 4402 Austin Road.

Ahumada said several trailers have already been sent to affected communities in Tamaulipas.

"This humanitarian effor is part of being good neighbors and in the spirit of wishing them a speedy recovery from Hurricane Alex and the rains," Ahumada said in a written plea for assistance.
