A Matamoros man spent his birthday weekend behind bars after he allegedly tried to smuggle $1.3 million dollars worth of cocaine into the United States.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers arrested Francisco Alejandro Urquiza-Lozano under federal drug charges on Friday.
Urquiza-Lozano drove up from Mexico at Brownsville’s B&M International Bridge on Friday.
Customs officers allegedly found 16 packages with 39.6 pounds of cocaine hidden his Dodge pickup truck.
Brownsville City Jail records show that Friday was also Urquiza-Lozano’s 40th birthday.
The Matamoros man appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Felix Recio in Brownsville on Monday morning.
Judge Recio denied bond for Urquiza-Lozano until a Thursday afternoon hearing.
