Food 4 Thought: 'Frost Bitten' Taquitos
Posted: 05.27.2010 at 12:22 AM

Insects, expired foods and frost bitten taquitos were just some of the “low-lights” during this week’s dirty diner roundup by the Food Patrol.

Tortilleria Maderos on 1155 North Minnesota Road in Brownsville scored the most demerits on a health report with 46.

Kitchen cops discovered food handlers were working without hairnets, ham and eggs were expired in the fridge, along with ants and flies.

But arguably the most troubling violation, an employee touching raspas and then hamburger meat without washing their hands.

That’s a major cross contamination health code infraction.

Other visits made by the food patrol included a Stripes in Weslaco with roaches, and a Pharr taqueria with freezer burned taquitos.
