Boil water notice for several rural Brownsville neigbhorhoods

Authorities have issued a boil water notice for several rural Brownsville neigbhorhoods following low levels of chlorine.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) asked the El Jardin Water Supply Corporation to issue the notice on Tuesday.

TCEQ officials made the request due to low levels of chlorine in the water company's system.

Chlorine is used to kill bacteria and other harmful microbes in drinking water.

The affected areas are as follows:

  • Florida Road between South Browne and South Oklahoma
  • South Browne Road between Florida Road and Southmost Road
  • South Indiana between Florida Road and Southmost Road
  • South Dakota Road between California and Southmost Road
  • Paloma Blanca Road
  • Florida Road
  • California Road between Dakota and South Indiana
  • Dockberry between Dakota and South Indiana
  • Villa Pancho
  • Hockaday
  • Alaska Road
  • Valle Escondido, Gruta and Rincon
  • Valle Hermoso
  • Arkansas Road
  • Alabama Road
  • Maine Road
  • Del Rio Road
  • Rosenbaum Road
  • George Saenz Road
  • Las Palmas Road
  • Southpoint Road

Residents in those areas are asked to boil their water before using it to drinking, cooking or ice making.

El Jardin Water Supply Corporation officials told Action 4 News that they would notify the public when the water is safe again.
