One killed in Reynosa baseball stadium shootout

Authorities have confirmed that one person was killed as part of a double shootout next to Reynosa's baseball stadium.

The city reported gunfire along Bulevar Hidalgo around 11:58 a.m. Thursday.

The city later confirmed that a "situation of risk" underneath a bridge next to a baseball stadium where the Reynosa Broncos play.

Reynosa officials asked area residents to avoid the area but gave an "all clear" message via Twitter at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Authorities reported the incident had started up again around 1:21 p.m. Thrusday.

Officials gave an "all clear" message at 3:03 p.m. Thursday but was still asking residents to avoid the area because of traffic congestion.

Tamaulipas Department of Public Safety (SSP) officials confirmed a Thursday afternoon shoout between the Mexican army and armed men.

The SSP reported that one civilian was killed during the conflict.

The person's name was not relesed but the SSP reports the case remains under investigation by federal authorities.

The SSP also reported finding the body of a man inside a car in the Fraccionamiento Modulo 2000 neighborhood on Thursday morning.

The SSP reported that the man had been shot to death.

The neighborhood is near the baseball stadium but it's not clear if the two incidents are related.

The Reynosa Broncos are scheduled to play the Nuevo Laredo Owls in Nuevo Laredo tonight at 9 p.m.
