DONNA -- Donna’s city manager said all road humps on public streets would be taken down because they posed a “hazard.”

Donna residents called on the Speedzapper for help after learning road humps on streets were being removed by the city.

We found out it’s because people were complaining the humps were damaging vehicles.

Donna’s city manager said all humps on public streets would be removed.

Last summer, the Speedzapper highlighted how Donna’s police department was leading the charge to get more humps installed.

Somebody on the force, who did not want their identity revealed, said they did not agree with city’s decision to remove them all.

The person admitted how some of the department’s lower-riding units did hit the humps, but added how they served their purpose by slowing down drivers.

An area north of Business 83 along 11th Street in Donna was one area where the humps have already been removed.

Officers said 14 tickets were issued to speeders Monday alone.

Donna’s city manager would consider installing road humps that were pre-engineered, but at a cost of $6,000 to $7,000 each, he said they won’t be up any time soon.
