BAYTOWN, TEXAS (AP) -- Lee College and three campuses in the Goose Creek school district in and around Baytown are on lockdown today.

That's after a Texas prison inmate allegedly escaped from a prison van near Baytown during a prison transfer after temporarily taking two prison guards hostage.

Officials believe Arcade Joseph Comeaux is armed and wearing a prison officer's uniform after this morning's incident.

State prison officials say Comeaux was being transferred from a prison in Huntsville to one in Beaumont when he pulled out a gun.

The 49-year-old man then took the prison officers' weapons and handcuffed them together in the back of the prison van before escaping on foot.

Police found the officers unharmed later this morning.

The 6-foot, 200-pound Comeaux is serving a life sentence for convictions in Fort Bend County of indecency with a child, aggravated sexual assault and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
