A Harris County sex offender is behind bars in the Rio Grande Valley after being arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Benito Zavala was booked in the Cameron County Jail over the weekend.

Jail records show that Zavala is charged with a probation violation  for an aggravated sexual assault of a child case from the Houston area.

Court records from Harris County show that Zavala was convicted in a 1999 child rape case where he received 10 years probation.

Action 4 News is working on getting details about why Zavala was in the Valley and how he was arrested.
