Students and administrators are praying for the recovery of Edinburg North High School principal Ramiro Guerra and his wife following a Sunday night accident.

Both Guerra and his wife Norma Zamora-Guerra were injured after being rear-ended by another driver on I Road in Pharr.

The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District reported that Principal Guerra was hospitalized at the McAllen Medical Center where he underwent surgery.

Zamora-Guerra works as director of communications for the McAllen Independent School District. She received a broken arm and minor injuries.

Edinburg CISD Superintendent Dr. Rene Gutierrez told Action 4 News in a written statement that Assistant Principal Felix Escobedo would take over Guerra’s duties at Edinburg North.

The accident remains under investigation but Gutierrez reported that teachers, students and staff continue to pray for Principal Guerra’s recovery.

“Mr. Guerra is an important part of the Edinburg North High School education team that has led this campus to be a College Board Inspiration High School and to academically produce and graduate outstanding students,” Gutierrez said in the statement.
