Federal agents arrested a former Cameron County Sheriff's Deputy as part of a firearms investigation.
Ezequiel Sauceda is accused of making false statements to purchase firearms.
Agents with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) arrested the former deputy on Thursday.
An ATF spokeswoman said Sauceda's arrest is part of an ongoing investigation.
Gus Reyna with the Cameron County Sheriff's Department said they actually fired Sauceda earlier that day.
Reyna would not comment further because it is ATF's investigation and not a sheriff’s department case.
