A Rio Grande Valley police chief found himself on the other side of the law after being arrested for having sex in a parked car.

Mission police arrested Alton Police Chief Baldemar Flores on public lewdness charge on Friday.

Investigators told Action 4 News that they received several complaints about two people having sex in a car parked behind an H-E-B and Auto Zone off Conway Avenue and FM 495.

Mission police said Flores and a woman were leaving the scene in separate cars when officers arrived at the scene.

Authorities said it was not the first time the two had been to the spot.

Customers complained Flores and the woman had been going there since 2008 – sometimes up to twice a week.

The woman was stopped, questioned and is expected to face charges.

Chief Flores allegedly learned of the arrest warrant for public lewdness and turned himself in.

A Mission municipal judge gave Flores a personal recognizance bond for $ 5,000 dollars.

Public lewdness is a Class A misdemeanor punishable up to 2 years in jail and a $10,000 fine.

If convicted, Flores could also lose his peace officer’s license.

Flores’ predecessor Jose Luis Vela was removed from office after being accused of drugging and raping a male officer.

A Hidalgo County jury acquitted Vela of those charges after hearing evidence that the relationship was consensual.
