It is a test taken by students in public schools across Texas.
It’s purpose is to measure students’ skills in reading, writing, math, science and social studies.
“The state assessments give our staff an idea of where they are so we can address particular needs," said Region 1 Executive Director, Jack Damron.
Region 1 shared how schools within the region did on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills Test.
While some of the scores are slightly below the state’s average, Damron said he was happy with the report.
“We’re seeing improvements in all content areas across the board in virtually all of our districts,” said Damron.
Some areas of improvement were primarily in math and science.
As for accreditation status, 17 of Region 1 schools were recognized.
One of those, Sharyland ISD, said it is all about teamwork when it comes to educating our youth.
"I'm proud of Sharyland, our staff and students. We made recognized status for the second year in a row and we didn't have to use the new Texas performance measure that measures growth. We did it on our own," said Sharyland ISD Superintendent Scott Owings.
South Texas ISD and Harmony Science Academy achieved exemplary status.
