San Benito police rescue chase suspect

A Saturday morning chase ended with San Benito police having to rescue a man who allgedly tried to run over an officer.

San Benito police told Action 4 News that an officer spotted a suspicious vehicle near Oscar Williams Road and and the frontage road of U.S. Expressway 77/83.

Police said the car had been used in an attempted burglary.

Investigators told Action 4 News that driver Roman Sandoval intentionally tried to run over Officer Ramiro Escobedo.

The officer was able to jump out of the way and was not injured.

Sandoval allgedly lead police on a chase that ended with him crashing off FM 732 and Palmer road.

The vehicle burst into flames and officers pulled Sandoval through the front window.

Sandoval remains in custody under aggravated assault on a peace officer, evading arrest, resisting arrest and attempted home burglary charges.
