Early voting in the city of Mission began Wednesday.
The city is holding a special election to fill an unexpired term for city council place one.
Celestino Ramirez, who once held the seat, lost a long battle to cancer recently.
The candidates vying for the slot are Maria Elena Ramirez and Keren Gomez-Guilds.
Election day is August 22, 2009.
The person elected will serve until next May.
