MCALLEN -- Residents from the Fairway Grande subdivision in south McAllen filled a lawsuit against Shell oil company with hope that it will prevent oil drilling in there backyard.

Shell operates a gas well within the subdivision and has obtained permits to drill on a lot just north of Fairway Grande.

The law firm representing the neighborhood says they are tired of having their concerns ignored and have no choice but to file a suit.

One resident of the neighborhood had this comment, "What were concerned about is our safety. We feel we no longer have piece of mind. I go off to work and I'm concerned  about my kids staying behind. "

A spokesperson for shell called action 4 and had the following statement.:

"We have not received the lawsuit yet, but when we do we look forward to reviewing it."
