The Harlingen Consolidated School District is receiving close to $9 million dollars in grants for tutoring and afterschool programs.

The 21st Century Community Learning Center (CLC) grant was announced on late Tuesday afternoon.

U.S. Congressman Ruben Hinojosa told Action 4 News that $8.88 million dollars was awarded to Harlingen CISD under the the grant program.

The funds will be given out over the next five years.

Part of the grants will be used to enhance college and workforce readiness through partnerships with TSTC and UTB.

Other funds will be used to bring a NASA and the Harlingen Parks & Recreation Department for afterschool programs for other students.
