American Indpendence Day will be celebrated in a unique way in Monterrey this year.

Officials with American Consulate and the American Chamber of Commerce in Monterrey have organized a 10K race to bring athletes from both sides of the border together.

The race is set for the morning of Sunday, July 5th at the Parque Fundidora in Monterrey.

The race comes on the weekend of Mexico's federal elections.

Organizers said the event commemorates both American independence and the increasingly important relationship between Mexico and the United States.

Registration is open but there are only 1,500 spots available.
