Federal officials are investigating a failed drug smuggling attempt where 146 pounds of marijuana were hidden inside the roof of a van.
U.S. Custom and Border Protection (CBP) officers said the seizure happened at the B&M International Bridge in Brownsville on Thursday.
Customs officers said a 48-year-old Matamoros man entered the United States in a green 1998 Ford Econoline van.
The van was referred to secondary inspection where a K-9 officer allegedly found 58 packages of marijuana worth $146,000 dollars hidden in the roof’s underlining.
No immediate arrest was made but U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) special agents continue to investigate this seizure.
