Two girls drown in Reynosa caliche pit

Monday’s afternoon rains took a tragic of events south of the border in Reynosa.
Mexican authorities reported that two girls drowned while playing with friends in a flooded caliche pit outside a Reynosa maquiladora.
The Metro Noticias de Tamaulipas newspaper reported the girls’ deaths in its on-line edition Tuesday.
The newspaper reported that the two girls and at least three of their friends went for a swim in the caliche pit on Monday.
Afternoon rains caused the water levels in the caliche pit to rise.
Metro Noticias de Tamaulipas reported that one of the girls went under and that the other died trying to save her.
Authorities identified the girls as 12-year-old Angélica Rivera Clemente 13-year-old Rosa Icen Pérez.
