Valley veteran honored at home and in D.C.

HARLINGEN, TEXAS -- One Rio Grande Valley veteran who paid the ultimate price has a monument displaying his valor in Washington, D.C., and in the City of Harlingen.
Harlon Block helped raise the flag on Mt. Suribachi, better know as Iwo Jima.
After graduating from Weslaco High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Marines.
At the age of 21 he lead his team to Mt. Suribachi.
He was killed in action by a mortar blast.
Block is buried beside the Iwo Jima Memorial in Harlingen.
