Reynosa Police Department officials will be giving a series of “confidence tests” to up to 485 city police officers over next few weeks.
The El Milenio newspaper reported the police department’s decision on its online edition Tuesday afternoon.
Reynosa Police Chief Carlos Leal-Lopez told El Milenio that officers would be given tests for illegal drugs in addition to medical and psychological screening.
Leal-Lopez told the newspaper that the officers would undergo financial background screening as well.
The border police chief said the tests were a condition of a recent federal grant worth $44 million pesos.
The tests are expected to continue through May 8.
