HIDALGO COUNTY, TEXAS --

Monday was the last day to pay property taxes in Hidalgo County without a penalty.

Delinquent taxes will be assessed a 6 percent penalty fee and a 1 percent interest fee.

Those who didn't make payment arrangements might also find themselves paying more late charges and attorney fees.

Action 4 News asked Hidalgo County Tax Assessor-Collector Armando Barrera if more people were delinquent this year because of the economy.

Barrera said those numbers will be available by the end of the week.
