Family and friends of a man killed by a Hidalgo County landowner gathered to say farewell to him over the weekend.
The 21-year-old Alex Estrada died last Friday from gunshot wounds.
Authorities said the alleged shooter Graham Garfield thought Estrada and two others were trying to steal his palm trees.
But Sheriff Lupe TreviƱo told Action 4 News that deputies never found any evidence that proved his claim.
Garfield remains in custody under a murder charge at the Hidalgo County Detention Center under a $2 million dollar bond.
Alex Estrada's family has set up a trust fund for his infant son.
Monetary donations can be made to the account of Maria Ivonne Valdez at any Bank Of America location.
