A birthday celebration turned very ugly for a young woman in Brownsville.

Police said the woman and her friends were home on 2915 Bertha Ave when her ex-boyfriend crashed the party.

Investigators said 32 year-old Enrique Galvan Basaldu didn't come bearing gifts.

"He grabbed her by the arm, stood her up, dragged her away, knocked her to the floor, dragged her while she was down on the ground, took her outside and assaulted her outside," said Brownsville Police Sgt. Jimmy Manrrique.

Bazaldu allegedly beat his ex-girlfriend's head onto the concrete sidewalk and then fled the scene before officers arrived.

Police were searching the area when they learned he had returned to the home.

"While they were returning back to the home they had a call that there was some shots fired at the home," Manrrique said.

Police officers chased Bazaldu to the Botanical Gardens on Owens Street where he was arrested with the assistance of a K-9 officer.

Bazaldu now faces multiple criminal charges ranging from asasult to terroristic threats to evading arrest and criminal mischief.

Manrrique said Bazaldu was arrested for November 2006 murder but was later acquitted.
