A new state park has opened up just north of Brownsville.

Officials held the grand opening for Resaca de la Palma State Park on Saturday.

The 1,200-acre park includes several miles of hiking and biking trails.

The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department facility is the eighth out of nine parks that make up the Rio Grande Valley's World Birding Center.

"There's a little bit over 200 species of birds that could be found here throughout the year most of those are migrant spieces but we do have alot of variety of wildlife in general," said Juan Arias with the park.

Officials said the park will now be open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Admission is $4 dollars for those 13 and older.
