Port Isabel area Constable Jose Maldonado, Jr. is under fire for allegedly getting drunk and loaning his county-issued gun to a cousin a party.
The weapon was allegedly fired several times causing a disturbance that prompted several neighbors to call the Cameron County Sheriff's Department on Saturday evening.
Deputies report that Maldonado appeared drunk at the time of incident.
Maldonado was elected as Cameron County Precinct 1 Constable in the November General Election.
He doesn't get sworn in until January but Cameron County commissioners voted to appoint him as a interim constable to fill a vacancy created by his jailed predecessor Saul Ochoa.
