Action 4 News has an exciting announcement about the Harlingen Cardinals and San Antonio Madison Mavericks game.

KGBT-TV has secured the rights to broadcast the high school football playoffs game this Friday night.

A special edition of Friday Sports Extra begins LIVE from Javelina Stadium in Kingsville at 7 p.m. Friday.

Gates to the stadium open at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. but pre-game coverage will begin at 7 p.m.

Action 4 News will also be streaming the game LIVE on our website VALLEYCENTRAL.COM for those living outside the Rio Grande Valley.

KGBT is carried on channel 4.1 over-the-air and Channels 4 and 865 on Time Warner Cable.

The station is also carried on Channel 4 and Dish and DirecTV.

Episodes of Friday evening's CBS programming (A Gifted Man, CSI: NY and Blue Bloods) will air on Saturday immediately following our 10 p.m. newscast.

HCISD, KGBT partner to broadcast sold out Cardinal football game

Thursday December 01, 2011 -- Tickets for the Harlingen High School football game this Friday night against San Antonio Madison High School have sold out.

The game being played at Texas A&M Kingsville will be televised live on KGBT-TV Channel 4.

"We are proud to offer the Harlingen CISD community as well as the entire Valley the opportunity to see the Cardinal's historic run,” Superintendent Dr. Steve Flores said. “We are humbled by the overwhelming fan support of the entire Valley. Cardinal Spirit truly never dies as we continue our trek to the state 5A championship. As the Superintendent of schools, I am proud of the team's will to win exhibited throughout the year."

After it was confirmed that the tickets had been sold out, Harlingen Consolidated Independent

School district reached an agreement with KGBT to air the game live beginning at 7 p.m. with a pregame feature.

"Due to the sellout Texas A&M Kingsville has notified HCISD that no tickets will be sold at the gates and there will be no standing room only tickets sold either,” HCISD Athletic Director Randy Cretors said. “Only ticket holders will be allowed in the game."'

An agreement with KGBT-AM radio has also been reached to broadcast the game on 1530 AM or 98.5 FM.
