Police departments across the Rio Grande Valley were alerted Tuesday afternoon after word spread that dozens of spring breakers were rushed to the hospital after unknowingly being drugged with K2.

Fortunately, that was just a rumor but it still had police are high alert.

"The synthetic stuff is always a danger,” Sergeant Rolando Garcia said. “When you start mixing it in with the cocaine and ecstasy and other drugs, you increase your chances of the mixture reacting a different way. Everyone is different.”

Garcia said there have been instances where, unknowingly, people have been drugged.

And it is a lot easy than people might think.

"There are a lot of different techniques,” he started. “You can put drugs in a liquid form, get a Qtip, and rub it around the rim of the product. It will naturally seep into the bottle---that will get into whatever you're drinking."

While San Juan police have not experiences this type of incident in their small town—they are not ruling it out.

Garcia said they prepare for all types of situations and this includes the possible poisoning of dozens of people.
