A Raymondville soldier who recently died from cancer is to be honored with a flag raising ceremony.

Family members say U.S. Army Sgt. Juan Jose Pedraza passed away from the deadly disease on January 16th.

The 25-year-old was buried on Saturday in Raymondville.

But officials are holding a flag-raising ceremony on Monday, January 28th at Pedraza’s aunt’s home in his honor.

The ceremony is expected to take place from 5  to 7 pm at 883 W. Tampico in Raymondville.

The public is invited to attend.

Sgt. Pedraza served four tours overseas, 3 in Iraq and once in Afghanistan, before being diagnosed with cancer in February of last year.

Pedraza is also the cousin of 27-year-old U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Hector Leija.

Staff Sgt. Leija was killed in Iraq in 2007 from wounds sustained during combat operations.
