Following last March's hail storm McAllen Public Work crews are not taking any chances.  They were out in full force early Tuesday morning.

“Primarily right now, we are keeping an eye on the radar making sure that if anything develops, we are looking at probabilities so we want to make sure if anything develops we are prepared” Director of City of McAllen Public Works Carlos Sanchez said

The storm sewer systems should be able to manage the projected 1 to 2 inches of rain.  Crews were clearing out debris that could cause problems.  Sanchez said he believes the City is prepared.

“Our biggest concern is the high winds in such an event, we tend to see the trees down, power lines associated with the trees and so forth, we are mobilizing our equipment and making sure it’s ready to be able to respond” Sanchez said

Director of Traffic Eduardo Mendoza said flood prone areas have been issues in the past.

“If you don’t need to be on the road stay off the road, we do expect that there may be power outages treat them as an all way stop,” Mendoza said

Citizens are also being asked to secure any loose items they may have on their lawns.

To report any concerns you are encouraged to call The City of McAllen Public Works hotline (956) 681-4000.
