A La Feria man is behind bars after he allegedly tried to flee on foot from a police officer investigating a recent rash of burglaries.

La Feria police arrested 29-year-old Michael Anthony Exinia on an evading arrest charge early Monday morning.

Investigators told Action 4 News that an officer was on patrol when he spotted Exinia in an area being hit by burglaries.

La Feria Police Chief Don Garcia said Exinia is a suspect in past burglaries.

The officer allegedly asked Exinia to stop but the 29-year-old ran on foot.

Chief Garcia said the officer caught Exinia less than a block away from the scene.

Exinia remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail where he is awaiting arraignment.
