South Texas Independent School District honored a fallen soldier and former ISD student Saturday morning.

The Science Academy dedicated their gymnasium to 1st Lieutenant Andres Zermeño.

Zermeño served his country as part of the U.S. Army, and served as part of the 2nd Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Polk, La.

Zermeño was killed in action on Sept. 25, 2011

He graduated from the Science Academy in 2003.

Several people who had personal connections with the 1LT. spoke at the event including a former teacher, his brother, and Major David Campbell, who served with him in Afghanistan.

The dedication was held at 10 a.m.
