Waiting in long lines to get a driver’s license will soon be a thing of the past for Starr County residents.

Officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) building on Wednesday morning.

The building between Rio Grande City and Roma will include an expanded driver’s license office but will also provide more security for the border area.

The building is expected to open in 2013 and generate dozens of jobs.
