Authorities have confirmed that a man arrested for a child molestation investigation in San Benito works as a corporal for the La Feria Police Department.

Investigators booked 29-year-old Rene Barrientes into the Cameron County Jail on Friday.

Jail records show that Barrientes is accused of three counts of indecency with a child by contact.

La Feria Police Chief Don Garcia told Action 4 News that Barrientes was a corporal with his police department.

Chief Garcia said that Barrientes is accused  of molesting a 14-year-old girl last year.

Action 4 News does not identify victims of sexual abuse but court records show that Barrientes had access to the girl through her mother.

According to the records, the girl told her mother that Barrientes molested her at his apartment in La Feria.

The girl told investigators that Barrientes even asked her if she liked it.

Court records show that the five-year veteran with the La Feria Police Department allegedly told the girl's mother, "I'm not going to deny it. I don't know why. I ****** up."

Barrientes remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail under $75,000 dollars in bonds.

Records show that an emergency protective order has been filed against Barrientes.
