The “Raspagate” scandal continues with a Cameron County grand jury indicting the mayor of San Benito.

The grand jury indicted Mayor Joe Hernandez with for abuse of official capacity.

Authorities unsealed the indictment on Friday.

Sources confirm that it’s related to the “Raspagate” scandal that Action 4 News first broke at the beginning of the year.

He's accused of using his barber shop property to allow a mobile “raspa” or snow cone stand to operate against city ordinances.

Mayor Hernandez spoke to Action 4 News just before our 6 p.m. newscast.

Hernandez said he was not aware of the indictment against him but continues to deny any wrongdoing.

The mayor says he takes his job as an elected official very seriously.
