Thousands lose power, sifting through storm's damage

Rio Grande Valley residents are sifting through the damage of a storm where thousands of people lost power.

The storm rolled into Willacy County shortly after 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Authorities issued a tornado warning after one was spotted in Willacy County.

A woman living in the rural Willacy County community of San Perlita told Action 4 News that winds tore the roof off her mobile home.

Residents in Monte Alto, Mercedes and McAllen all reported hail.

At the storm's peak, some 8,000 people were without power in Hidalgo County while some 600 were without power in Cameron County.

AEP are working throughout the night to restore power to affected homes and businesses.
