A middle school choir teacher is facing criminal charges after he allegedly tried to lure a 12-year-old girl that he met on Facebook.

Harlingen police arrested 29-year-old Alfredo Hernandez on an on-line solicitation of a minor charge on Friday evening.

Investigators told Action 4 News that it all started when the girl's mother read her Facebook message from a Brownsville man named "Freddy Love" on Friday.

According to the message, Hernandez had gotten the girl to agree to sneaking out of her parents' house and meeting him.

The two were supposed to meet behind the Payless Shoe Source off U.S. Expressway 77/83 and Lincoln Avenue but police were there waiting.

Detectives in an unmarked car and police officers in a marked patrol car arrested Hernandez after he arrived.

Hernandez faced a Harlingen municipal court judge on Saturday morning where he was issued a $50,000 dollar bond.

San Benito CISD officials said Hernandez worked as a choir teacher at Berta Cabaza Middle School for the past six

School district officials said that Hernandez resigned from this post after his arrest.
